The Nepalese royal massacre occurred on Friday, June 1, 2001, at the Narayanhity Royal Palace, the former residence of the Nepalese monarchy, when Crown Prince Dipendra shot members of his family. As a result of the shooting, ten people died and five were wounded. The dead included King Birendra of Nepal :
